Derek
Herman
Acting Instructor
Derek has loved teaching and directing at Acting Out over the last 5 years! An Actor, Teaching Artist, and Director with a huge passion for theater education, he grew up performing all over Portland, Oregon until he moved to Chicago to receive his BFA in Acting from Roosevelt University. After graduating, Derek founded Fearless Theater, which highlighted the joys and perils of the teenage odyssey. Through his theater company, he was able to tap into his love for philanthropic work and combined the shows with advocacy for charitable causes. Also in Chicago, he worked for Emerald City Theater, coordinating the One Fund, a program that provided low-income schools the opportunity to have a free book and performance come into schools. He has taught and directed for the Theater “Cherubs” program at Northwestern University, The Chicago High School for the Arts, Northwest Children’s Theater, and Northlight. He is currently at NYU Steinhardt School, earning his Master’s Degree in Theater Education for Colleges & Communities. For more information visit Derekrherman.com.
